I have to say that this first week of kindergarten did not go as I had expected! My wonderful child, who has been counting down the days until kindergarten for over three months, has not been his normal happy-go-lucky self.
On Monday, he was quiet but I just blew that off as "first day jitters". On Tuesday, he still was not eating, wasn't taking a nap, and wasn't going to the bathroom. He said he only had one friend. He wouldn't tell us anything about school. He just wasn't acting like himself. I cried all night on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I took him to school hoping to get some insight from his teacher. I didn't . . . I ended up crying in the hall when some other teachers asked how it was going. They all assured me that he was doing fine and always looked like he was having fun when they saw him. I thought . . . "yeah that is what you are supposed to say" (I know . . . I work with kids too). I cried all day on Wednesday. I couldn't talk to anyone at work about Lance. I was worried sick. According to Lance, he still wasn't eating, still wasn't napping, and still only had one friend. He told me he was "too tired to talk about school" if I asked him anything. I didn't know what I was going to do!
Tonight Scott, Lance, and I all went to Open House. We get there and Lance goes in his classroom and starts hiding behind Scott. He was acting real shy. He wouldn't talk to his teachers or any of his classmates either. His teacher, Ms. Patricia, and his student teacher, Ms. Danielle, couldn't believe he was acting shy. They both kept saying "this isn't the Lance that we have in our kindergarten class all day". They told us how "social" (aka "talkative") he was all day long - all week long. They said they couldn't believe it was the same child. I thought to myself . . . now you know why I have been so worried all week - this isn't "my" child!
Let me tell you, I learned tonight that I have an award winning actor on my hands - a major fibber! This kid who has been saying all week that he "doesn't have enough time to eat", "doesn't have enough time to take a nap", and "doesn't have any friends" is full of it!!! He doesn't have enough time to eat, because he is too busy socializing with everyone. He has been taking a nap. They even had a hard time waking him up on Tuesday. He is evidently attached at the hip with another boy in the class, Cameron. He has tons of friends according to his teachers. He has been to PE, music, library, and sports this week - loved every minute of it. He is quite the "little ham" according to all of his teachers! Okay . . . now this is the kid that I know!!!!
I could ring his neck for worrying me to death all week, but I can't . . . I am just so thankful that he is enjoying himself and doing well. He had a blast at Open House. He showed Scott and I everything (and some more than one time). We were talking on the ride home about tomorrow being Friday and that it would then be the weekend. He usually lives for the weekend. He was actually upset that he was going to have to stay at home. He wanted to stay at school.
Kids . . . you gotta' love them! It will definitely be a week that I will never forget!!!
(The first picture is what I call "Lance the Actor")
(The second picture . . . well this is the wild and crazy nut that we are used to who has pulled one over on us this week) LOL

hahahahahahaha!!! (I can laugh hysterically at you since I just have a 6 month old that can't talk!) Lance sure pulled one over on you. I'm glad he loves kindergarten and you sound much happier about it than when we talked earlier this week. I really enjoyed reading about his shenanigans!
I am so glad he is doing well. You really had me worried at the beginning of your blog. You should put a spoiler in the title. He will have a great year I am sure!
Oh my! What a horrible week it must have been for you, you thought he was miserable! I'm so glad it all turned out okay, i think he's going to be just fine, and you too!
